There is an 80% increase in risk of obesity among adolescents for each hour of sleep lost. (Gibbs, 11-26-07)
Physically inactive girls rank lower in self-esteem, social skills, the ability to make friends, and ability to handle conflicts in comparison to their physically fit counterparts. (Gupta, 5-5-08)
Teens & Sleep A whopping 80% of teens do not get the full recommended 9 hours of sleep a night. Twenty-eight percent of teens fall asleep in school at least once a week. Another 22% of teens fall asleep during homework. And the National Sleep Foundation reports that three-quarters of teens rely on caffeinated beverages to get through their day. (Rosen, 2010)
