If People Were Perfect

People perceptions is one of the most important concepts in sexual abuse prevention, and unfortunately, one which is almost always neglected by most prevention programs. Children are not molested by monsters or mean people, they are molested by their friends, who are caring people, who sadly have developed a sexuality problem they have a hard time controlling.

Parents do not help the situation, by referring to such people as monsters, or talking about sexual abuse in the same breath as abduction prevention. Children need to understand, that unwanted advances are likely to come at the hands of someone they know and like, not from a stranger or mean person.
