In Madison Heights, Michigan, a number of school officials were demanding a change to Michigan’s new open carry law after a gun rights activist initiated a full scale lock-down at a school. The man (or shall we say moron?) approached Lamphere High School carrying a holstered pistol along with a rifle that was slung over his shoulder.
It’s sad that in response to school shootings, this is the tactic that advocates have taken: make sure more people are carrying around loaded weapons everywhere they go. Never mind the fact that Adam Lansa was practically a poster boy for the NRA (prior to the shooting he was a normal, “law abiding gun owner”, or that the idea of guns providing actual protection (as opposed to a psychological power trip) is simply absurd (having a gun dramatically raises your risk of a violent death and makes you a threat to everyone around you). Yet the gun industry has somehow managed to rework the narrative to their advantage, by passing law after law expanding the prevalence of guns in our communities.
